Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said that India, currently the fourth-largest economy, is set to become the third-largest within the next two years, with the youth playing a decisive role in this transformation.
Speaking at the Industry-Academia Connectivity Programme ‘Samanvay’ at IIT Kanpur, the CM highlighted sessions on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Sustainability, noting their growing global importance.
Tracing India’s economic journey, he recalled that the country once contributed 25% to global GDP, before colonial rule caused a steep decline to just 2% by 1947. He said the past 11 years of reforms have restored India as one of the fastest-growing economies.
“Today, we are the fourth-largest economy, and in the next two years, we will rise to the third. All of you will play a major role in making India the world’s second-largest economy in the future,” Adityanath told students.
Meanwhile, President Droupadi Murmu, at the City Union Bank’s 120th foundation day in Chennai, stressed the need to prioritise farmers’ empowerment and rural economy, adding that banks must support MSMEs, start-ups, and smart cities while addressing challenges in digital literacy and financial awareness.
